Preparations for Boston/Cape Cod

We’re off on our vacation for Boston/Cape Cod! After we got Seamus from camp, we spent the next two days getting ready. Packing in bins is a good approach for us, but since Porter and Harlan had a half day camp today (don’t ask…), we couldn’t leave out at 4:00 am. That ended up being fine, and we’re packing a duffel for our hotel tonight in Connecticut. The rest of the stuff is in bins.

Patrick got a very large stand up paddle board (SUP) for us to use on the Cape and maybe, at Walden Pond! I’m excited for that. He and I took it out on the Potomac (at the Columbia Island marina) the other day, and it’s huge! But it’s also a lot of fun. Looking forward to getting the kids on it.

The Whale

I’m looking forward to walking Freedom Trail with the kids, getting a cannoli in the North End, seeing the Make Way for Ducklings statues, going to Walden Pond/Lexington/Concord, and doing a South Boston walk. I hope Patrick and the older boys get to go to a Red Sox game. I’d also like to see Salem and take the ferry from Salem to Boston, but whew! That’s a lot of stuff, and I’m not sure if we’ll have enough time!

As prep for our trip, we did a ton of food preservation from out CSA. I’ve blanched and frozen broccoli, cauliflower, greens (beet and kale), fennel, and peaches. I’ve also pickled some beets. Good fun!
